Health Services Center provider among the nation's first to prescribe Bixlenvo™

Don Bruner, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Don Bruner, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, of Roper St. Francis Health Services Center wrote one of the first prescriptions for Bixlenvo™ in the United States on September 9, 2026.

Bixlenvo™ is a once-daily pill designed to treat human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in individuals who are undetectable, or virologically suppressed (HIV-1 RNA less than 50 copies per mL). This treatment is intended for people living with HIV who are seeking to switch from a multi-pill regimen or another single-tablet regimen.

“Around 55% of people living with HIV are over the age of 50, and many take two or more pills to treat their HIV,” Bruner explained. “Bixlenvo™ offers patients a small, once-daily treatment option that reduces pill burden and has a high barrier to resistance.”

Bixlenvo™ was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on August 27, 2026. Less than two weeks later, Bruner prescribed the medication to a Health Services Center patient.

Health Services Center is committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. Because no two patients are alike, having a range of treatment options helps providers tailor care to each individual's needs. The addition of Bixlenvo™ strengthens that ability.

“Additional treatment options are important because they allow for better individualized care for patients,” Bruner said.
