Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is prescription medication that people take to prevent contracting HIV from sex or injection drug use. PrEP is highly effective at preventing HIV when taken as prescribed.

Truvada is a pill for all people at risk through sex or injection drug use.

Descovy is a pill for people at risk through sex or injection drug use, except for people assigned female at birth.

Apretude is an injection for all people at risk through sex or injection drug use.

WHAT IS PEP?

Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is a medication taken after possible HIV exposure. PEP is limited to emergency situations and must be started within 72 hours after a possible exposure to HIV.
